Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise is three film old now. How does it feel to take the franchise a notch higher with every part?
I feel overwhelmed and humbled to take this franchise always a notch higher. Every time it’s a big challenge but we all as a team have managed to achieve the goal each time. Rooh Baba has his own fanbase now across the age groups. It’s fun to be a part of BB world where we are always trying to surprise the audience and also have them entertained.
Whose idea was it to bring the OG Manjulika back? How was it working with Vidya Balan?
Getting Vidya ma’am back as Manjulika was an incredible idea by the makers. Her energy as Manjulika is unmatched. I had a blast shooting with her. She has this infectious laughter. I felt like reuniting with a college friend. We had a blast on the sets. Sharing the screen with her was unforgettable. I hope we collaborate soon.
How is Madhuri Dixit Nene as an actor on set? What was your camaraderie like?
Madhuri ma’am is an absolute legend, and getting to share screen space with her was surreal. She’s incredibly graceful, not just in her dance but in everything she does on set. She has this warmth and energy that instantly makes everyone comfortable. I’ve learned so much from her, especially about staying grounded and enjoying every moment on set. Working with her was like a dream, and she brought such positivity to the set.
Your dance moves are taking center stage again; how many days did you shoot the title track in, and how did the collab with Pitbull and Diljit happen?
Bringing the title track to life once again was super exciting! This time we had a new hook step ‘Spooky Slide’ which went viral instantly and the most interesting fact is that we created this hook step on the set itself. It was not a part of the rehearsed choreography. We shot the song around three or four days, but it felt so energetic that time just flew. Also, the track this time has so much of addition to it that despite rehearsing non-stop, the energy never dipped. The collaboration with Pitbull and Diljit was incredible, and it all came together really organically. Both artists brought their unique vibes, and I was thrilled to match that energy. The fusion really gave the track an international feel, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.
How does it feel to deliver a blockbuster in dire times like these where the audience has become very selective?
What changes in Kartik Aaryan’s mind after delivering a 200 crore film?
Honestly I get even more focused on picking the right scripts and challenging myself to bring something fresh with each film. With every milestone, my commitment deepens, and I find myself wanting to explore new genres, new characters, and new ways of storytelling.
What goes through your mind pre-release and post-release? You are known for your intense movie promotions now…
Pre-release, it’s all about excitement mixed with a bit of nervousness. You’re eager to see how audiences will react to something you’ve poured your heart into. Post-release, it’s a mixture of gratitude and learning. I listen carefully to what fans and critics say because it helps me grow as an actor. But at the end of the day, if the audience has enjoyed the film, it’s a huge relief and a reward in itself. I believe promotions are an integral part of filmmaking and that’s why I try to give my two hundred percent to it as well. For BB3, we travelled for 12-13 cities in the country. I love meeting, connecting and interacting with my fans.
Tell us something about your first collaboration with Anurag Basu. He has a unique style of filmmaking. What can we expect from this new jodi?
Basu da is one filmmaker I have been waiting to collaborate with. I’m super excited to get onto his film set and learn from him. The film is going to be a musical romantic journey with all the depth and emotions. I can’t wait for everyone to see what the team is creating.
2024 has been incredible for you- an acclaimed film like Chandu Champion and then a box office champion like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Seems like you had planned it properly.
(Laughs) It may be looking like this but that’s not the case. I believe jo hona hota hai, vo hota hai. But yes, looking back at it – it’s truly been an unforgettable year. I got so much love for Chandu Champion, even when I was touring for BB3 across the country, people kept talking about Chandu Champion, especially kids. The film has touched people’s heart and has succeeded in its purpose of inspiring. BB3 has been a historic success for me and the team. What more one can ask for!
You have been working continuously for two and half years and its paid off well. Now you must be planning to take a break.
I would love to take a break but honestly, I am a workaholic so I get bored when I am not working. I’m always happy being on a set and around my team. While talking to you, i am recalling that Last break, I had taken post Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 release and it’s been a while. Let’s see! I feel I should give a treat to myself and go on a solo trip (Laughs).
