Vote counting for the Budhni and Vijaypur assembly by-elections in Madhya Pradesh began at 8 am on Saturday, according to an election official. These seats witnessed a contest primarily between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress.
The Budhni seat counting is taking place at the Government Women’s Polytechnic College in Sehore, the district headquarters.
Assembly Election Results
Officials expect the counting to be completed in 13 rounds. A three-layer security system is in place at all counting centers.
These by-elections, held on November 13, saw significant voter turnouts. Vijaypur recorded a turnout of 77.85%, while Budhni registered 77.32%.
The Budhni seat was previously held by former Chief Minister and BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan. It became vacant after he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Vidisha in June and later joined the Union Cabinet. The BJP fielded Ramakant Bhargava, considered a close aide of Chouhan, against Congress candidate and former state minister Rajkumar Patel.
