Barhait election results 2024: JMM’s Hemant Soren takes lead against BJP’s Gamliyel Hembrom
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha candidate Hemant Soren took an early lead from the Barhait assembly constituency. He is leading by over 2,000 votes, election commission data shows.
Barhait (ST) Assembly constituency is one of the 81 constituencies in Jharkhand, reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates. It is located in Sahebganj district and is one of the six assembly segments of the Rajmahal (ST) Parliamentary seat.

In the 2019 Jharkhand Legislative Assembly elections, Hemant Soren of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) won the seat with 73,725 votes. His closest competitor, Simon Marandi of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), secured 47,985 votes, while Hopna Tudu of the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) (JVM(P)) received 2,622 votes.
In the previous 2014 elections, Hemant Soren also emerged victorious with 62,515 votes. He was followed by Hemlal Murmu of the BJP, who garnered 38,428 votes. Simon Marandi, then of JVM(P), secured 14,161 votes, while Monica Kisku of the Indian National Congress received 7,151 votes.
Barhait (ST) continues to be a stronghold for the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, with Hemant Soren holding significant sway over the electorate in recent years.
