Jayant Patil, a senior leader of the NCP-SCP faction, introduced Ahmad’s candidacy in a press conference, describing him as a promising young leader with an activist background. “Fahad Ahmad is a well-educated Muslim youth who has worked across the country. People are looking for leaders like him. After discussions with the SP, he joined our party, and we decided to field him from Anushakti Nagar,” said Patil.
Ahmad expressed gratitude to both NCP chief Sharad Pawar and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav for supporting his nomination. “Sharad Pawar, a socialist leader, asked Akhilesh Yadav for my name to be announced as the NCP-SCP candidate. I am thankful for this opportunity,” he stated. Ahmad previously served as the state president of the Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha in Maharashtra.
The counting of votes in the Maharashtra Assembly elections began on Saturday morning, with a battle between the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti coalition and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, which is hoping to stage a comeback. Voting commenced at 8 am across all counting centres in the state, according to an election official.
The process began with the verification and counting of postal ballots, followed by the counting of EVM votes at 8.30 am. Each assembly segment will undergo a minimum of 20 rounds of counting, the official added. The final voter turnout for the elections, held on November 20, was 66.05%, an increase from 61.1% in 2019.
